Teacher preparation is Important because Students deserve the Best

Research shows that a motivating and knowledgeable teachers are the most important school related factor influencing student achievement, that is the reason why it is critical to educate the future educators and for the schools to give support on keep training new and experienced teachers. I found this article at edutopia.org and it talks about great teachers help create great students. It is mentioned in this article that the best teacher preparation programs emphasize subject-matter mastery and provide many opportunities for student teachers to spend in real classrooms under the supervision of an experienced mentor. Just like in other different professions, exemplary teacher preparation programs allow student teachers the time to apply their learning of theory in the context of teaching in a real classroom. I believe this approach of learning is effective since I have expererienced this during this block. I believe it is important to learn the theory but it is better to learn how to apply it in a real classroom with real kids. While this experience, I learned that once your in the classroom you have to be a little bit of everything to achieve the goal not just knowledgeable. Of course knowing the theory and knowledge is the main part of it. I would like to learn more about the best teacher preparation programs and hope I can get to experience a lot more.

Social & Emotional Champions

I read an article in edutopia. This article is about the student development of social and emotional learning. It is mentioned that a successful education demands not only about teaching students academically buy also to teach them about developing their social and emotional skills in order to help students resolve their issues. This article is very interesting because it says that research shows that when promoting these skills, results to reduced violence and aggression between children, higher academic achievement , and an a better capability to function in schools and work place environment. Students feel secure and respected, so they can interact in school and achieve a better academically outcome. I believe that teaching students how to control their social and emotional outcomes should be part of a school curriculum, these builds the students character and can make a great impact or difference in their life. I would like to learn more about how to make the students as a person better; since we have to prepare them as well because one day will go out and live in challenging world.

High Expectations

I read an interesting article, "High Expectations for Everyone", I founded at the web page my education-world. I consider this article is important because it talks about having high expectations for students, wich I believe is extremely important in order for students to be successful during school, eventually in the future. This article mentions, that at Jackson school, parents had very low expectations for their own children than other parents from other communities. The principal of the school introduced parents to a new reseach activity, where they we required to get involved in what student's academically achievement. Through this parenst started to become more alert to what their kids were learning at school. The involvement of parents, caused them to gain high expectations for the students. This amazingly support and encourage students to do better, in this school there was a big change due to the different view of expeactations the parents had towards their kids. I definitely support that every school should have high expectations for their students, this makes the students more competent and they develop a charcteristic of confidence that helps them become better in everyway. I would like to learn about more strageties or methods, one can work with making the school staff believe in the importance of high expectations.

Sharing a Lesson Plan

I decided to use the Hotchalk lesson plans page (www.lessonplans.com). I thought that this page is very interesting and helpful since they have a large variety of lesson plans for all subjects. The title of the lesson plan that I picked is “Capitalization-Proper Nouns and Adjectives Multiple Intelligences Instruction and Activities”. I thought it was important to use this lesson because it is about teaching language arts to students’ grade levels 5-7. This lesson is about key points that are important for the kids to learn and experience such as verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, visual-spatial, musical-rhythmic, bodily- kinesthetic, naturalist interpersonal, and intrapersonal.

Bullying

We as educators must acknowledge this problem of bullying if not it will continue to exist. We must take the right measures in our classrooms to give each and every student the opportunity to feel safe in the learning environment. In the web site, my education world, Dr. Ken Shore explains in Dealing with Bullies, that bullying can be capable of generating fear and anxiety in our schools, distracting our students and interfering with their ability to gain knowledge. Another article that I agree to its fullest, would be Stop Bullying Before It Starts, where it is mentioned bullying is not something to be tolerated within our classroom or out of our schools and prevention has become the main focus. I definitely believe that this topic is very important; I would like to learn more on how to deal with these kinds of situations, so that I can help out my students in the future.

Strategies that help! Anger Management

I decided to read this article about strategies that help to deal with anger management students. I picked this cause I think it is important for us as student teachers to start looking forward on how to deal with students who can’t control their feelings. Therefore, I can know what to expect in how to deal and help the student. There is a list of helpful articles in this web resource all about anger management students. I found this article at education-world web resource. It is mentioned in this article that there is nothing is more disturbing to an effective learning environment than a frustrated, angry, or aggressive student. A single student whose emotions are out of control can interrupt the learning of an entire classroom of students. A mixture of strategies and programs have been developed to help teachers deal with what many consider to be the number one threat to classroom management, the angry student. These articles talk about:

  • Teach aggressive students self-control skills; for example control group situations, control impulses, and adapt to the school routines.
  • Prevent classroom aggression; due to aggressive behavior might signal that he or she is a troubled child and/or cause her to be rejected by her peers; it also might be a harbinger of problems she will display as an adolescent and adult.
  • There are some tips for preventing explosions in easily frustrated children.

There is a lot more to this subject as I read each different article. This topic interests me a lot and I would like to learn more information about how to further help children with self-control disturbances.
